Abstract

Background: Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD) is a degenerative neurological disorder that is incurable and invariably fatal. CJD is also called a human form of mad cow disease. CJD caused by an agent called a prion.

Objective: To describe the features and complications of CJD and discuss the current management

Methods: Detailed history, physical examination and laboratory investigations.

Conclusion: This report highlights the importance of detailed family history and physical examination in the diagnosis of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease. In addition, it gives a good insight about the pathogenesis and the clinical presentation of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease.

Abstract

Bee venom therapy is the specialized form of apitherapy. Apitherapy is a medical concept for treating systemic immune disease, allergic disease, viral and organic specific inflammatory disease.bee venom therapy uses honeybee products.bee venom has been used traditionally by ancient Egyptians as a remedy for the control of pain and inflammation in arthritis. Bee venom also known as apitoxin contains more than 40 biologically and pharmacologically active compound. The average life span of ahoney bee is 4-6 weeks. In BVT healthy female honey bees of 20days of age is used, from the species Scerana Indica. BVT is now practicing in Kerala in Idukki and Wayanad district. BVT is the therapeutic application of honeybee venom, through live bee stings, to bring relief and healing for various spinal, neural, joint or other musculo-skeletal ailments. The bee stings stimulates the immune system of the body and stimulates the production of cortisol-the natural steroid. BVT should be started with allergic test, which is with a single bee sting. If there is no untoward reactions occurs the therapy continuous. Recent studies have shown that bee venom produces both anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive effects via different mechanisms.

Abstract

Cardiac pacemakers are limited by device-related complications, notably infection and problems related to pacemaker leads. Innovative product development eliminates pacing leads by stimulating the heart through wireless transmission of energy. A tiny, wireless heart pacemaker showed promise in early tests and could offer an alternative to conventional, wired pacemakers. Unlike traditional pacemakers - which need a generator and wires and are implanted via surgery - the new pacemaker is a wireless tiny tube that can be attached to the right side of the heart using a catheter inserted through the leg. While most pacemakers have wires connecting the device to the right and left sides of the heart, the new device sits in the right ventricle and doesn't coordinate the two sides. The mini pacemaker is the size of a large pill and can be placed without surgery. Two leadless pacemakers, the Micra Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS) (Medtronic) and the Nanostim (St. Jude Medical), are currently in development. Each consists of a self-contained intracardiac device including the pacemaker, electronic circuits, battery, and leads. It has a low rate of complications compared to traditional pacemakers. Wireless pacemaker is now primarily intended for a small portion of patients who have an abnormal heart rhythm known as long-lasting persistent atrial fibrillation, plus a slow heartbeat. It may also be the only technology for kidney failure patients on dialysis or patients who have chronic blood vessel infections.
